Business women on way to meetingBirmingham Economic Development Partnership (BEDP)

BEDP provides the strategic leadership on economic development matters for Birmingham. It has responsibility for the Succeed Economically theme of the LAA.

What does the partnership do?

Key issues for the partnership include:

  • Addressing high worklessness rates and low skill levels, by linking disadvantaged communities within the City to economic opportunity
  • responding to economic challenges and issues, particularly where a rapid and concerted response is needed

In addition BEDP:

  • acts as a champion for Birmingham on economic development matters at a regional and national level
  • provides the mechanism for developing or collaborating with other partnerships with complementary goals e.g. the City Region, Marketing Birmingham, Fair Cities, Science City
  • develops the Birmingham Economic Strategy and other key economic policies for the city

BEDP includes representatives from the city council's key strategic partners including, Learning and Skills Council, Jobcentre Plus, Birmingham Chamber of Commerce & Industry and Business Link.  Other members also include the universities, Government Office for the West Midlands, Advantage West Midlands, East Birmingham North Solihull Regeneration Zone, Marketing Birmingham, Communities England
