The Birmingham Neighbourhoods Approach is an innovative and ambitious approach to tackling deprivation using neighbourhood level interventions.
The Neighbourhoods Board oversees the delivery of this programme which is made up of three delivery plans:
1. Transforming neighbourhoods
Is being delivered by Birmingham City Council Homes and Neighbourhood team. This delivery plan relates to LAA Outcome 16 - to improve Birmingham’s Neighbourhoods, particularly the least affluent ones, in terms of deprivation, service delivery and overall quality of life for residents. It will be measured by National Indicator 5 which is citizen’s overall/general satisfaction with the local area and a local indicator of closing the gap between priority or at risk neighbourhoods and the Birmingham average on the neighbourhoods deprivation index.
2. Strengthening neighbourhoods
Is being delivered by Birmingham City Council Homes and Neighbourhood team. This delivery plan relates to LAA Outcome 19 measured by national indicator 4 – this relates to the percentage of people who feel they can influence decisions locally.
3. Thriving third sector
Is being delivered by BVSC and the Change Up consortium. This delivery plan relates to LAA Outcome 19 - to Encourage more active participation of Birmingham Citizens in neighbourhood and citywide organisations, events and civic institutions. This delivery plan also supports local indicator to support a thriving third sector.
